Indeed, the night colluded to cast its magic spell on the photography exhibition ‘Under the Spell of Radhe! Radhe! of dance photographer,
S Magendran, at KamaRia Gallery on the 20 May, 2026.
It was a perfect balmy night at KamaRia, suffused with billowing breeze and swaying garden fronds. Besides the exhibition launch, the night was meant as the cast party of Radhe! Radhe! cast, who came dressed in their ‘selekeh’ chantique best. Radhe! Radhe! so far has had a splendid run in Malaysia & India and is presently on a Malaysia-city tour. Radhe! Radhe! was, afterall, the inspiration behind S Magendran’s series of colour photographs which was taken during a slight drizzle at KamaRia.
By sheer coincidence, the photographs immortalised an otherworldly quality that captured the ‘shringara’/love mood of the timeless romance of Radha & Krishna.
S Magendran also exhibited some of his b/w classics taken at the precinct of the great temples of Konark and Khajuraho.
(The opportunity to photograph at Konark & Khajuraho may no longer be available in light of the increasingly strict regulations imposed by the Archaeological Survey of India with regard to photography at these iconic sites.)
Zaridah Mallik, artistic director of DiDance, felicitated S Magendran and spoke glowingly of S Magen’s dance photography.
Emcee, Vernon Adrian Emuang introduced KoolSkool, the duet Jazz musicians comprising of Aznaff (sax-player) and Israq (guitarist), together with baritone international jazz singer Freddie King. Freddie crooned us with jazz classics of yesteryears.
Chacko Vadaketh, gorgeous singer Noryn Aziz (and even Ramli) belted songs that made the night truly memorable.
Finally, birthday boys Ramli & Chacko cut the cake, complement of Laksha Caterers, ending a truly special night of art, rasa & friends!
