ฤ๐๐ผ๐๐ฟฤ โ Where Tradition Lives, Lineage Continues, Where Art Becomes Legacy.
This August, Kuala Lumpur is witnessing a remarkable celebration of Indian classical arts, with a vibrant series of dance and music performances captivating audiences across the city. Adding to this cultural crescendo is ฤ๐๐ผ๐๐ฟฤ, a Bharatanatyam performance by Guru Shanmugha Sundaram, presented on 29 August 2026 at Amphi-Sutra.
But ฤ๐๐ผ๐๐ฟฤ is more than a performance. It is a celebration of tradition, lineage and the sacred bond between Guru and Sishya.
Deeply rooted in the aesthetics and discipline of the Vazhuvoor Bani, ฤ๐๐ผ๐๐ฟฤ reflects Guru Shanmugha Sundaramโs lifelong dedication to carrying forward a tradition that has been entrusted from one generation to the next.
An ardent disciple of the late K.J. Sarasa, one of the foremost exponents of the Vazhuvoor style, Shanmugha Sundaram has carried her artistic legacy forward for the past 14 years through the curation of the annual Sarasa Natya Mala festival in Chennai. His own artistic journey continues to be enriched through his ongoing mentorship with Smt. Chitra Visweswaran, further deepening his engagement with the guru-sishya tradition.
It is this living continuum of knowledge, devotion and artistic discipline that gives ฤ๐๐ผ๐๐ฟฤ its soul.
A Guru gives more than technique. A Sishya carries forward a legacy.
With ฤ๐๐ผ๐๐ฟฤ, Guru Shanmugha Sundaram brings to the stage not merely choreography and music, but the spirit of a lineageโhonouring those who shaped him while opening the path for the tradition to live, evolve and inspire another generation.
As Kuala Lumpur embraces the timeless beauty of Indian classical arts, ฤ๐๐ผ๐๐ฟฤ invites audiences to witness Bharatanatyam not simply as a performance, but as a legacy in motion.
