It was a special night of many joyous celebrations! Life must be celebrated especially when friends from different countries come especially to visit us.
Our dear friends, New Delhi-based distinguished artist, Satish Gupta & his lovely wife Amita, dropped by Sutra on the way back to New Delhi.
It so happened that Satish Gupta and Datin Catherine Lai had just celebrated their birthdays. At the same night, we’ve just completed the combined collaborative effort between three dance companies in KL – Dua Space (Anthony Meh & Aman Yap), DiDance (Zaridah Mallik) & Sutra Foundation. These are good enough excuses to celebrate!
Sutra’s in-house chef, Futri and Chef Jessie Kaur, creator of cookbook Champur, together with yours truly (the sibuk-sibuk kitchen cook), delivered a yummy cuisine spread that transformed the evening into a memorable savouring of diverse ‘rasa’.
Once upon a time, both Satish & Amita were part of our exotic performance journey across India, Qatar & Europe. Both Geethika Sree & I, had been privileged to experience the special international interconnection of visual art and dance with Satish Gupta as the master shaman-painter. Geethika & I would improvise during yoga retreats, on beaches and streets of France & India as Satish painted us.
The other birthday girl was the effervescent Datin Catherine Lai who has been for years, one of Sutra’s sincerest supporters. A Buddhist Rajmata in her previous life, Cat Lai is now incarnated as a Malaysian life-style icon fragrant and synonymous with Zen elegance, generosity and equanimity of Buddhistic philosophy.
The highlight dance entertainment of the night was the preview of ‘Gengaman’, a 30-min combined Dua Space-DiDance-Sutra Foundation dance spectacular, soon to be staged for a private function.
We hope to further explore and develop ‘Gengaman’ into a full-fledged dance production to be staged in Sutra Amphi-Theatre soon.
