Anuragavali by Pritam Das
at Amphi-Sutra
8 & 9 August, 8 pm

Friends,

Anuragavali is an invitation to savour a solo Bharatanatyam at its best. To be able to experience this at the magical sylvan surroundings of Amphi-Sutra was indeed a treat of the highest order!

Anuragavali is part of the KamaRia Under the Stars Series 2026 of performances, especially of male dancers, which celebrate the gift of KamaRia space to Sutra Foundation.

The first evening of Anuragavali presented on the 8 August was an unforgettable experience.

Pritam Das definitely had the ability to manipulate Space & Time, simply by his power of suggestion. The audience, who were in a state of wonderment, need not have to travel faster than the speed of light to experience how Space & Time were no longer absolute entities, but could be stretched or contracted at Pritam’s beck and call.

Pritam’s amazing agility and musicality in the nritta portion was impressive. He did not miss a beat executing the most complex rhythm sequences throughout the recital.

Pritam was in total focus and control in his emotional involvement in the abhinaya sections drawing the audience into the depth of his intense story telling. The many different nuances of ‘anuraga’, of passion and longings, were felt by the audience. Many had a close encounter with moksha!

Pritam has taken Bharatanatyam to another level, not just in interpretation, but also in composition. One could discern the influence of his mentor-guru Rama Vaidyanathan in the way he commanded space and also in the exciting thirmanams and nritta portions he assailed.

There were many insertions of individualistic movements but they look absolutely amazing and right with Pritam.

Pritam seemed to have released Bharatanatyam from the stranglehold of staid adavu systems which have unwittingly painted many Bharatanatyam banis to a tight corner.

Come and see Anuragavali’s last performance at Amphi-Sutra tonight on the 9 August. Without doubt it is an exceptional dance experience by an amazing performer at the height of his artistic power.

Definitely Pritam is one of the best of his generation! Don’t miss it!
