Indeed, the living art & cultural bridge between Malaysia and India is alive and thriving as proven by the high quality featured music & dance performances from both nations last night at the Shantanand Auditorium, TFA, 11 June, 2026.
Directors of Hindustani Art & Music Society, Kolkata, (HAMS), Pandit Prosenjit Poddar and Shri Dipak Sarkar, would have to be congratulated for bringing the sumptuous richness of the living Indian culture in one sitting at HAMS’ 582nd production in Malaysia, in collaboration with High Commission of India (Malaysia) and ICCR.
The performance was attended by HE Shri Hitesh Rajpal (Chargè d’Affaires of HCI) and Smt Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan, Director of NSCBICC, Kuala Lumpur.
It was an incredible violin duo performance by Dr Mysore Manjunath & daughter Malavi accompanied by Pt Prosenjit Poddar on tabla and young Malaysian mrdangist, Aditya Rajkumar. The Ghazal duo Arnav & Annie was followed by the Chhandam Group from Kolkata. Both groups equally charmed the audience.
But it was the scintillating dances that truly captured the hearts of the audience with Ananya Kannan (a rising Malaysian star of Kuchipudi), and the bright young talents of Nadesha Bharatam Dance Academy of Guru Varsha Pillai and the hypnotic duet from Laasya Arts Academy of Guru Usha Dorai that glued audiences to their seats!
And of course Guru Gajendra Panda impressed with the raw dramatic Navarasa classic that marked the unique no-nonsense Odissi style of pioneer Odissi Guru, Shri Debaprasad Das.
The night finished off with Sutra Foundation’s Kiravani Pallavi from their recent Radhe! Radhe! Odissi production. The ten dancers performed a fitting showstopper that culminated the end of the night with Joy and Release for the audience.
