Dear Friends,
Sutra Foundation in association with New Bridge India present Odia artist Birendra Paniโs painting exhibition titled โNeo-Urban Avatar: A Mythopeosis of Contemporary Timesโ, The exhibition was officiated by HE Mr Ary Norton de Murat Quintella (Ambassador of Brazil to Malaysia) at Sutra Gallery on the 26 August, 2024.
To get the ball rolling, Sutra Dancers, Geethika Sree, Harenthiran and Hareen performed the Dasavatar (the Ten Incarnation of Vishnu/Krishna by Odia medieval poet, Jayadeva) in Odissi, to augment further the Hindu concept of โAvatarโ.
Dr Rajashree Biswal of New Bridge India had preceded the exhibition the previous day with an illustrated-lecture on โManouvering Traditionโ at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose India Cultural Centre.
Internationally recognised, artist Birendra Pani, who is creating waves in New Delhi and Bhubaneswar, has taken his figurative composition into the realm of post-modernism of Indian contemporary visual art. Birendra engages his viewers to reflect and expand their understanding of traditional concepts and archetypes to re-contextualise their meanings to contemporary times.
His engaging and colourful works enrich the multi-identity of contemporary modern visual art that has embraced traditional concepts as part of the pool of creativity that feeds it.
The exhibition has now been moved to KamaRia Gallery, Petaling Jaya and is now open for viewing by appointment at 019 333 1092
