It was a great idea that Sutra Foundation screened once again
Rabby Deyan’s docu-film ‘Radha Unbound: The Making & Touring of ‘Radhe! Radhe!’ together with ‘In-Conversation’ with artists of ‘Let a Thousand Flowers Bloom’, moderated by theatre personality, Vernon A Emuang.
Besides giving another chance for dance enthusiasts who missed the docu-film to view it, the evening gave another opportunity to contextualise Sutra’s Odissi presence from the multi-level perspectives of the exhibition and film. The Odissi rehearsal as Sutra dancers prepare themselves for their soon to be held Seremban performance, on 02 May (Sat), was an added bonus.
The unique event was also covered by Bangladeshi media.
The evening activities – a Bangladeshi film director covering a Malaysia/India cultural collaboration, excellently manifested the positive soft power diplomacy of Culture that the occasion represented.
Bangladeshi Rabby Deyan, spoke how for the last 5 years, he had promoted Sutra’s performances and activities which culminated with a 6-city tour of Radhe! Radhe! in India which he participated.
Rabby who had covered Ramli’s recent solo performance for Modi Ji, spoke how his exposure with Odissi had led to his personal development as a videographer and blogger for Bangladesh.
Moderator Vernon A Emuang was excellent in extricating the more ‘inside’ views of artist/curator Sivarajah Natarajan & veteran artist Syed Tajudeen on their own creative contribution to the exhibition.
The evening was well attended by art aficionados such as Datin Kanagaratnam (wife of former minister YB Datuk Seri G Palanivel), forensic accountant Mr Prabhat Kumar, lawyer Shakuntala Sharma, Sutra supporters Uma Pushpanathan & Vicki Fenessey and many others.
