Sutra Foundation’s performance of Radhe! Radhe! at Brahma Vidyaranyam (Kulim) on 20 June, 2026 was an immensely welcoming experience, not only because it’s was like coming home to a familiar space, but also due to being able to connect again with Sutra’s appreciative dance followers.
Sutra dancers arrived by bus at 3pm, straight to a late lunch. They then proceeded to block their spaces, exits & entrances on stage even before they checked in to their rooms – troupers that they were.
Our host, His Holiness Swami Brahmananda Saraswati, a vedantist in the lineage of the late Swami Dayananda Saraswati, was the perfect host, making sure our needs were well looked after.
Dancers prepared themselves quickly, make-up & costumes, as the audience started to stream in for Rabby Deyan’s docu-film ‘Radha Unbound, the Making & Touring of Radhe! Radhe! . This was screened to help provide a useful background information prior to the actual performance.
Radhe! Radhe! was performed to a rapt and appreciative audience.
During intermission, Swami Brahmananda bantered with Ramli on the importance of Arts & Culture in fostering empathy and sensitivity in the general public. All the more vital as we enter an uncertain era which is in the stranglehold grip of AI and social media.
Radhe! Radhe! stirred the imagination of the audience who seemed to want more and to starve for more stimulating live theatre experience! For instance, we were amazed how some guests were able to remember and describe in detail of episodes of Sutra’s previous performances since we first danced at the Dhyana Ashram, some thirty years ago!
Alas, like so many large towns of Malaysia, Kulim does not have a cultural centre which can provide a congenial space for the public to express and share the creative expressions of their rich multi-racial cultural aspirations.
